Privacy policy

Last updated 6 October 2026

This policy explains how B66 Properties ("we", "us") collects, uses and protects personal information when you use the B66 Properties app and website (the "service"). We handle personal information in line with the Botswana Data Protection Act, 2024.

Who this applies to

Tenants who rent from us and the contacts they give us, property owners we work for, and our staff and caretakers. Accounts are created by us; there is no public sign-up.

What we collect

  • Account details: your name, email address, phone number and role. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash that cannot be turned back into the password.
  • Tenancy details: the unit you rent, your lease terms, rent and deposit amounts, invoices, payments, receipts and statements.
  • Identity checks: your Omang or passport number and copies of the identity and supporting documents you upload, such as payslips or company registration documents. We encrypt the number and the documents before storing them.
  • Requests and messages: repair reports and their updates, service bookings, away notices (including any house sitter or emergency contact you add), and the SMS and email messages we send you.
  • Payments: the amount, date and reference of the payments you make. If you pay by card, you type your card details on the secure page of our payment provider, PayGate; we never see or store your card number. We keep the result, PayGate's transaction number and the card type (for example Visa).
  • Google or Apple sign-in: if you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, they send us your name, email address and an account identifier, and nothing else. We use them only to recognise you; Google and Apple handle that sign-in under their own privacy policies.
  • Your device: if you allow notifications, a notification token for your device. If you turn on fingerprint or Face ID unlock, the check happens on your device and we never receive your biometric data.
  • Security records: sign-in times, failed sign-in attempts and changes made in the service, which we keep to protect accounts and look into problems.

We do not collect your location or your contacts, and we do not use advertising or tracking tools.

How we use it

  • To run your tenancy: billing, receipts, statements, repairs and services.
  • To confirm who you are and prevent fraud.
  • To contact you about your tenancy by SMS, email or app notification, including sign-in codes and rent reminders.
  • To keep the service and your account secure.
  • To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.

We rely on the lease or service contract we have with you, our legal obligations, our legitimate interest in managing our properties safely and, where we ask for it, your consent (for example for notifications), which you can withdraw at any time.

Who we share it with

  • Service providers that process information for us under contract and only on our instructions: our hosting and database providers, Cloudflare (network security), Twilio (SMS), our email provider, Google Firebase (app notifications) and PayGate, part of DPO Pay (card payments).
  • Property owners: the owner of the property you rent can see occupancy and rent information for that property.
  • Authorities such as the Botswana Unified Revenue Service, when the law requires it.

We never sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Where it is stored

Our servers are in data centres in Europe, and some of our providers process information in other countries. When information leaves Botswana we protect it with the safeguards the Data Protection Act, 2024 requires, including written contracts with our providers.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Identity documents are deleted once they are no longer needed for your tenancy. Leases, invoices, payments and receipts are kept for as long as Botswana tax and company law requires. When you ask us to delete your account we remove your personal details as described on our account deletion page.

How we protect it

Everything travels over encrypted connections. Identity numbers and documents are encrypted where they are stored, passwords are hashed, and staff can only see what their role needs. We may ask for a code sent by SMS when you sign in.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to or limit how we use it, and you can withdraw consent you have given. Contact us using the details below. If you are not happy with our answer you can complain to the Information and Data Protection Commission of Botswana.

Deleting your account

You can ask us to delete your account in the app (under Profile and security, then Delete account) or as described on our account deletion page.

Children

The service is for adults. It is not meant for anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

We will update the date at the top when this policy changes, and tell you in the app about significant changes.
